About Us

How It Started

RaptorFest is a “Friendly by Nature” community event that was established in 1997 by a small group of enthusiastic volunteers to create awareness of this unique Hawk Migration that occurs along the Niagara Escarpment every spring.
Thousands of migrating hawks, vultures and eagles are counted by the Niagara Peninsula Hawkwatch as they fly over Beamers Memorial Conservation Area on the escarpment.
Many eco-tourist birding enthusiasts, visit this area each year to witness this world class raptor viewing event.
This year the Hawkwatch expects to record the 500,000th raptor since the watch started in 1975. And in 2000 Beamer Memorial Conservation Area was designated as an important birding area. IBA..
RaptorFest has grown to be an entire Earth Day Celebration that hosts many exhibitors, presenters, and award presentations for the school age participants featuring art, photography and writing competitions.
